Hey everyone! Welcome. Last night, the Video Music Awards aired on MTV, and I caught some clips online. Let’s dive into a discussion about a few standout performances and some intriguing behind-the-scenes moments.
To kick things off, let’s address Saweetie’s hosting, which garnered attention for its lackluster delivery during the pre-show. She seemed to struggle with her cues and even stumbled over the teleprompter. “How you doing? I am feeling excellent, better now. I know that’s right.” While her enthusiasm was evident, something seemed off about her performance. It felt like she was elsewhere, perhaps distracted, disoriented, and out of touch—words that could also describe her current career trajectory. Speculations arose about her being under the influence, but regardless, she appeared disengaged, merely fulfilling her hosting duties to clock out and head home.
Also, I’d like to touch upon the moment between Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake backstage. Initially perceived as awkward, the encounter wasn’t truly uncomfortable. A video clip of their interaction went viral, leading many to speculate that Megan was arguing with Justin due to her animated demeanor. However, it turned out to be a misunderstanding. Justin simply greeted Megan with, “It was nice to meet you,” to which Megan responded, “No, no, no. This don’t count. We gotta meet proper.” According to both parties, there was no issue. Despite Megan appearing irritated, it’s possible she was preoccupied with something else and caught off guard by Justin’s greeting. Her momentary distraction might have contributed to the misunderstanding. Overall, it seems Justin approached Megan at an inconvenient moment, which led to the misinterpretation of the situation.

I witnessed Chloe and Halle Bailey’s backstage presence, and it appears that Halle might be pregnant. Despite her adept posing that somewhat disguised her condition, certain angles and videos revealed her pregnancy. In one instance, when she embraced Nicki Minaj, her baby bump was unmistakable. While Halle hasn’t confirmed or denied the news yet, I extend my congratulations to her in advance and wish her a safe and joyful pregnancy. Speculation should cease, allowing her to disclose the news on her own terms.
Furthermore, I’d like to extend congratulations to Ice Vice for winning the Best New Artist award. Her gratitude was palpable, marking a significant achievement in her successful year.
Moving on to the performances, let’s begin with Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s rendition of “Bongos.” Their energetic performance exuded fun and excitement, showcasing both artists’ enjoyment and delivering a lively show. Although “Bongos” may not be my personal favorite, its infectious energy undoubtedly captivated the audience and set a vibrant tone for the event.
I thoroughly enjoyed Diddy’s performance at the event. He delivered a captivating medley of his greatest hits, which felt fitting given the celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary. While opinions about Diddy may vary, his undeniable talent as a showman shines through. Despite being in his fifties, he effortlessly commanded the stage with his remarkable stage presence and energy. It was heartwarming to see him involve his children in the performance.
However, it struck me as odd that none of his featured artists, such as Faith Evans, Mase, Lil’ Kim, or Usher, joined him on stage, especially considering that the songs he performed prominently featured them. This absence, particularly on a night when Diddy was honored with a Global Icon award, seemed peculiar but perhaps not surprising given his history with some of his artists.
Nevertheless, there were standout moments, such as when he brought Keyshia Cole on stage to perform “Last Night.” Keyshia’s powerful rendition of the song added depth to the performance, despite Diddy’s reputed intensity during rehearsals. His dedication to perfection, even if it means raising his voice, was evident. Overall, I found his performance to be impressive and enjoyable.
Let’s delve into Doja Cat, an artist often associated with controversial narratives. Undoubtedly, she possesses talent and a captivating stage presence. However, my personal convictions prevent me from fully endorsing her. It’s evident that she delves into themes that align with Satanism, whether as a genuine belief or a provocative aesthetic. Regardless, I believe such pursuits ultimately lead to transient rewards, ones that pale in comparison to genuine happiness and peace of mind. My hope is for her to find inner stability and contentment, steering away from potential pitfalls. As someone who aligns with faith, particularly Christianity, I prioritize values that oppose such ideologies. Moving on to Shakira, her recent recognition with the MTV Vanguard award was well-deserved. While her performance was commendable, the noticeable lip-syncing detracted slightly from its authenticity. Nonetheless, Shakira remains a revered figure in the music industry, deserving of accolades. Finally, the highlight of the event was undoubtedly the Hip-Hop 50th Anniversary tribute, featuring an array of esteemed artists such as LL Cool J, Run DMC, Slick Rick, Dougie Fresh, Grandmaster Flash, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj. The energy was electrifying, with Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj particularly commanding the stage and leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
Let’s delve into Nicki Minaj’s hosting of this year’s award show. It was intriguing when she mentioned that MTV received calls expressing concern about what she might say. It begs the question: whose teams made those calls? It seemed like there was an attempt to censor her, perhaps to avoid stirring any controversies with other prominent figures in the audience, possibly alluding to Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, among others. Regardless, Nicki appeared despite these concerns and certainly made her mark; the spotlight was undeniably on her during the event. MTV went all out, rolling out the pink carpet in her honor. Winning the Best Hip Hop Music Video award for “Super Freaky Girl” and delivering a moving performance of “Last Time I Saw You,” it was evident that this song held deep sentimental value for her. What struck me most was the seamless transition from vulnerability to her signature confident persona, especially when she previewed a new track from her upcoming album, Pink Friday 2. Despite any constraints imposed by MTV, Nicki still managed to captivate the audience and ignite discussions with her performance. Her stage presence was commanding, effortlessly maintaining the audience’s attention without resorting to excessive theatrics. Although the title of the previewed song remains unknown, it undeniably demands attention and should be a future single. That concludes my review; I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe, and feel free to share this video. Thank you for tuning in, and until next time, take care. Goodbye!
