Hey everyone, welcome! In today’s video, I’ve got a few topics on my mind, starting with Megan Thee Stallion. So, Megan recently dropped a freestyle on her Instagram page, and it’s got me excited because her freestyles are what initially drew me in as a fan. They really set her apart from her peers. Now, in this latest freestyle, she dropped an interesting line: “I’m a hot girl, I don’t do titles. If I do date, it would be Michael.” That got me thinking, which Michael could she be referring to? There are plenty out there, after all. It’s possible she’s talking about just any random Michael, but then again, could it be Michael B. Jordan?
As far as I know, Megan and Michael have some familiarity with each other. They’re both ambassadors for Coach and were seen together at New York Fashion Week. Plus, Michael B. Jordan has shown public support for Megan, especially after the unfortunate shooting incident involving her and Tory Lanez. He tweeted, “Meg, I admire your courage and applaud you for speaking up. We must support black women, protect black women, and believe black women.” He even sent her flowers, which she shared on her story, affectionately calling him “waterhead.” Megan’s been playfully giving him nicknames. Additionally, when Megan Thee Stallion snagged three BET Hip-Hop Awards, Michael B. Jordan was there in the comments, showering her with praise. So, while Michael has been supportive, it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a romantic connection between them. Now, most people might think Megan isn’t Michael’s type, given his usual preferences, but I’ve been keeping an eye on his comments under Megan’s posts.

Once, Megan shared a video of herself and her friends twerking, and Michael dropped an emoji that looked like he was surprised. Megan responded with another emoji, almost as if to say, “Yeah, I see you liking that.” It’s just my take on their interaction, and I could be reading too much into it, but I’ve got a feeling there might be something brewing between Michael B. Jordan and Megan Thee Stallion. Megan did mention she’s not dating anyone, but if she were to, she’d choose a Michael. She didn’t specifically say Michael B. Jordan, but it seemed like a hint to me. I could be off base, but that’s just my two cents.
Megan Thee Stallion and her label mate, Erica Banks, both jumped on a remix of DJ Chose’s track “Thick.” It’s intriguing how they each tackled the same song. Megan and Erica are both signed to 1501 Certified Entertainment, although Megan’s relationship with the label has been rocky since earlier this year. Following some tension with 1501’s CEO, Carl Crawford, Megan has been leaning more on her distribution label, 300 Entertainment. Crawford sought to introduce competition for Megan by signing Erica Banks, a rapper from Dallas, Texas. Initially, when Erica gained attention, many saw similarities to Megan, but further listening reveals her distinct sound.
There’s a palpable rivalry between Erica Banks and Megan, evident in their lack of interaction and absence of collaborations despite sharing a label. Crawford seems to fuel this competition, evident in his social media posts promoting comparisons between their remixes of “Thick.” Erica’s reposts of favorable comments and Crawford’s “Let the debates begin” caption add to the spectacle. Megan’s cryptic Instagram post about fake accounts stirring trouble in the comments section adds fuel to speculation about tensions between them.

However, this rivalry might be strategic marketing. It generates buzz around both versions of the remix, boosting exposure for Erica and Megan alike. While some may prefer Megan’s version, acknowledging her prowess, others appreciate Erica’s skills on the beat. There’s hope for a collaboration between the two, as they could complement each other’s strengths if they put aside any animosity.
Let’s delve into the BET Hip Hop Awards, albeit a bit tardy. The event aired on Tuesday night, and a few moments caught my attention. Let’s start with the City Girls’ performance. They showcased their singles, “Jobs” and “Kitty Talk.” Notably, it marked the first televised award show performance where both City Girls appeared together. Previously, Young Miami had solo performances during JT’s incarceration. Nonetheless, their joint effort deserves commendation. The City Girls have shown significant improvement, particularly Young Miami. Previously lacking stage presence, she exuded confidence this time, mastering dance moves and truly shining onstage. It’s evident that having JT by her side has boosted her confidence. This performance was also significant for JT, marking her debut on an award show stage, and she delivered admirably. JT’s inherent star quality and charisma enrich the group’s dynamic. Overall, they both impressed, with a well-executed set and choreography. With continued direction and consistency, I anticipate their growth as performers. Credit is due to their creative director and choreographer, Sean Bankhead, for pushing them beyond their limits.
Let’s delve into Mulatto’s standout year. With electrifying renditions of “B*tch from Da Souf” and “Muwop” alongside Gucci Mane, her debut at the awards ceremony was a triumph. While I may not count myself among her fervent fans, her unwavering dedication and tireless grind command respect. She’s earned every ounce of success she’s garnered, and it’s heartening to witness emerging female hip-hop artists seizing the spotlight. Flo Milli’s moment in the cipher spotlight was equally thrilling, underscoring the importance of platforms for up-and-coming talents on such occasions.

Yet, the pinnacle of the night belonged to Toby Wigway. His gripping performances of “Try Jesus,” “Don’t Try Me,” and “Eat” left an indelible mark. Toby’s prowess is undeniable, and though I admittedly discovered him only now, his impact reverberated throughout the night. From his viral call to justice for Breonna Taylor to his mesmerizing stage presence, Toby is a force to be reckoned with. Accompanied by his talented wife, known as Fat, and supported by an exceptional band and dancers, his performance was nothing short of mesmerizing. Nell, their producer, deserves accolades for his genius. I eagerly await the opportunity to witness their artistry live when the concert circuit reopens; they’re a truly exceptional talent.
Let’s delve into the ciphers. This year’s lineup didn’t disappoint, showcasing an array of remarkable talent. Among the standout moments, the reggae cipher stole the spotlight for me, featuring Bounty Killer, Beanie Man, Coffee, Skip Marley, and Chancia. It was a commendable move by BET to provide Jamaican artists their well-deserved platform to shine.
Equally impressive was the R&B queens cipher, where Tiana Taylor, H.E.R., Erykah Badu, and Brandy reimagined the classic remix of Brandy’s “I Wanna Be Down.” Each artist delivered an electrifying performance, with H.E.R. showcasing her lyrical prowess reminiscent of Lauryn Hill, and Erykah Badu effortlessly proving her rap skills. Tiana Taylor held her own, while Brandy revived her alter ego, Brand New, reminding us of her versatility, especially in her rap phase.
Brandy’s multifaceted talent is one of the many reasons she’s earned legendary status in my eyes. It’s high time more people recognize her contributions to music. But those are just my thoughts on the BET Hip Hop Awards performances. What’s your take? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
