Welcome to the Impressive. Today, we have a significant update regarding the incident involving rapper Megan Thee Stallion. For the first time, Megan has publicly stated that Tory Lanez was the individual who shot her. To provide some context, the incident traces back to July, when Megan, Tory Lanez, and her best friend Kelsey were leaving a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s house. An argument ensued, and during the altercation, Megan was shot, prompting police intervention.

Initially, Megan remained silent about the specifics of the incident until footage emerged showing her, Tory, and Kelsey being detained. The video clearly showed Megan with a foot injury, limping as she moved. Addressing the situation on her Instagram, Megan confirmed she had been shot, describing the event as a crime intended to cause her physical harm.

Further, Megan took to Instagram Live to discuss the traumatic experience, though she refrained from naming the shooter at that time. This silence fueled widespread speculation about the incident. However, Megan’s patience wore thin, and she recently expressed her frustration on Twitter with a pointed message: “Lie one more time and I’mma quit sparing you.” This tweet was a direct response to what she perceives as attempts by Tory’s team to paint her as a liar, thereby undermining her credibility and shaping the narrative to benefit Tory Lanez’s defense.

Megan felt compelled to use Instagram to confirm that she had been shot. She even showed her injuries, and addressed Tory directly with frustration: “I’m truly fed up. You all should know that I am usually a calm and kind woman. I don’t bother anyone, but this situation is being dragged out too much. I prefer to stay out of the spotlight because, at heart, I’m just a real person from Houston, from the South Side. It’s not in my nature to share my personal issues on the internet or involve the police. But I won’t let you all continue to disrespect me, nor will I let him continue to play me like this. So, since you’re so curious, yes, it was Tory who shot me. He did, and then had his publicist and team lie to the media about it. Enough with the lies.”

“Look, I’ve tried to keep this situation private, but it keeps getting dragged out online. Despite what’s been said, I never provoked this. I was simply trying to leave the scene because I didn’t want to argue anymore. There were four of us in the car: me, my friend, the security guard, and the person who shot me. I got out of the car to walk away, and that’s when shots were fired from the back seat.

This didn’t happen near Kylie’s place; it happened close to where I was staying, just a short distance from my home. When the police arrived, I was terrified due to the ongoing issues with police violence. With the tension, there was no way I was going to tell the officers about a gun in the car—that could have escalated to all of us getting shot.

I didn’t immediately tell the police what really happened because I feared for our lives. At the hospital, even though I was visibly injured, the police were dismissive and detained me without understanding the situation. I didn’t reveal anything because I didn’t want to exacerbate our troubles.”

She was distraught. The doctor, after the police released me, didn’t send me to jail but arrested the other three. At the hospital, the doctors discovered bullets in my feet through X-rays. “You have bullet fragments in your feet,” they said. I was scared, having never been shot before, and mistrusted even the doctors, thinking they might be with the police, so I hesitated to reveal the truth.

I don’t understand why I would need to lie about being shot. It seems like people want to see me as the villain so badly that they’ll accept a lie over the truth any day. It’s exhausting to see such narratives, especially online, where it feels like everyone expects a grown black woman to have a motive to lie about another black man, given everything happening in the world. Despite him shooting me, I tried to protect him, but it feels like no one is trying to protect me in return.

I deal with enough daily, and then I have to face this turmoil online while I’m just trying to focus on my music and my life. I’ve protected this person despite what happened, and yet there’s endless speculation online about whether I was even shot, simply because I didn’t report it immediately. I shouldn’t have had to protect anyone, but I did, and I’m done hiding the truth.

People ask why no one is speaking up; ask them. I’ve kept to the same story. I don’t lie; I have no reason to. Why isn’t he speaking? What could he possibly say? Admitting he shot me would be the only truth. I’m tired of the lies being spread about me, of being portrayed as the problem when all I’ve done is tell the truth, which seems too much for some to handle.

Stop twisting the narrative online as if it’s harmless gossip. It’s not. It affects real lives. You shot me, and now you’re too scared to admit it, letting your team spread lies to cover it up. I’m tired of being dragged through the mud by people who weren’t even there and don’t know the full story. You claim to uphold some code of silence, but your actions speak louder than any loyalty you profess. I’m done letting people play games with my truth.

And with that, Megan finally laid everything to rest. It’s relieving that she spoke up, especially identifying Tory as the one responsible. She had been shielding him, a choice I can understand but can’t fully condone. The fear she felt during her encounter with the police, hands up, weapons aimed at her, is palpable, particularly for a black person. It’s a terrifying reality for many of us when faced with law enforcement. Watching her detention video underscores the gravity of her situation. Megan’s hesitation to reveal Tory’s possession of a firearm is rooted in this fear—a fear that speaking up could escalate to violence. The police, responding to a disturbance call, were poised to react aggressively. It’s a complex scenario; Megan’s attempt to safeguard Tory is evident. She likely considered the severe consequences he could face, not just in terms of incarceration but also deportation as a Canadian citizen. It’s disheartening that she felt compelled to shield her assailant, fearing the stigma of “snitching.” Megan, a law-abiding citizen, shouldn’t bear this burden. Unfortunately, her efforts to protect Tory have backfired. She’s been branded a liar, accused of fabricating the incident or provoking Tory. Such narratives attempt to vilify her, despite her being the victim. Regardless of their dispute, Tory’s decision to resort to violence is inexcusable. He must be held accountable for his actions. As for Tory, he must face the consequences. I invite you to share your thoughts on this matter in the comments below.
