Hello, everyone! Welcome to the Impressive Channel. As usual, there’s some drama going on in the female rap world. Today, I want to talk about Ice Spice. She just released her new album, “Y2K,” and I believe this is her official debut. To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations for this album; I thought it would be more of the same. But I was pleasantly surprised. Ice Spice tried to switch up her rap style a bit, and I loved the production. Her producer, Riot, did an amazing job on all the tracks.

There are a few songs that really stood out to me. “Popa” is probably the best song Ice Spice has done so far. I really, really like it and have replayed it several times. Another good track is “Oos,” her collaboration with Travis Scott. It’s the kind of song that can get the crowd hyped. I also enjoyed “Plainy Sun.” Overall, the album was better than I expected. While it’s not the best thing I’ve ever heard, it’s solid for what it is.

Ice Spice Shades Latto in Rolling Stone Interview

Now, let’s talk about Ice Spice taking shots at Latto and Cardi B. It’s no secret that Ice Spice and Latto have been throwing jabs at each other. It all started when Ice Spice accused Latto of copying her poses, expressions, and even her style. Naturally, Latto took offense, and they’ve been exchanging subtle disses ever since. Latto teased a song about wanting a one-on-one with Ice Spice, with Ice Spice’s video playing in the background. In response, Ice Spice trolled Latto by releasing her song “Fart,” saying, “You think you the ish? You ain’t even the fart.” Latto clapped back with her song “Sunday Service,” with the line, “Think I’m the ish? B, know it. Ho, Jesus walked on water, I got ice boiling.”

It’s clear that this feud is far from over, and we’ll be keeping an eye on what happens next.

I appreciate that Latto’s response was cool, but she did drag it out, and it became a bit cringy. Let’s not forget the whole cake period incident. Essentially, Latto humorously admitted that she’s the “motherest fart you ever smelled,” which was an odd way to put it.

Ice Spice addressed the situation in her Rolling Stone interview, saying, “If we ever spoke and I asked her what the issue is, it would be like a blank stare. There would really be no issue whatsoever, especially for me. I understand friendly competition, but at this point, it’s a joke she dragged out, and it’s not funny anymore. From January, posting a piece of a cake to announce good news for you, making it about me again, is kind of a compliment.” Ice Spice is essentially gaslighting because she started this feud with Latto and continues to provoke her. In her song “Fat Butt,” Ice Spice says, “Got these Bs copying my pose, got these Bs buying my flows, like ballerinas, keep them on their toes, and I really write, so F a ghost.” It’s ironic because Ice Spice accuses Latto of copying her while she herself is mimicking Nicki Minaj and other artists.

Ice Spice’s song “Did it First” with Central Cee is quite similar to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Bass” with Khalid. Megan seemed to hint at this by tweeting her lyrics around the same time Ice Spice released her song, possibly to remind people that the concept was hers first.

Overall, Ice Spice calling Latto a copycat doesn’t entirely make sense, as all these artists seem to draw inspiration from one another. This doesn’t mean Ice Spice is entirely unoriginal—I do acknowledge her unique sound and look, which she has successfully carved out.

Ice Spice Disses Cardi B
Let’s talk about the recent drama between Ice Spice and Cardi B. Ice Spice threw some major shade at Cardi B in her song “BB Belt.” She rapped, “Think she pretty but changing her face, falling behind like B, pick up your pace. It was funny till I took her place. Her man calling, but I’d be like, who this? I’m a switchy B, I really do this. Light-skinned, but I’m black, you could tell by my hair. I get money, B, I’m a millionaire.” These lyrics seem to take direct shots at Cardi B, suggesting that Ice Spice is taking her place and criticizing Cardi for altering her appearance. Ice Spice also highlighted her black heritage, referencing a past interaction with Cardi where Cardi mentioned Ice Spice’s Dominican background. Ice Spice responded, “I got a Dominican parent and a black one too, Cardi, so we’re not the same. I’m still part black.”

Ice Spice also rapped, “This one B is built like an ant, ill crash outs, and they going on rants,” which many believe is another dig at Cardi. When Cardi heard these lyrics, she didn’t hold back. She said, “These Bs have absolutely lost their mind. I’m getting all my lick backs on my album though, on each one of you Bs. These Bs can’t see me in numbers or status. Y’all have way too much time to catch up. Can’t see me in money, can’t see me in real estate, fashion, and can’t see me in person either. I’m not in a rap race with none of you Bs, and I’mma show y’all.”

People are now wondering where all this tension between Ice Spice and Cardi B came from. At first, they seemed to support each other. Some believe that Ice Spice only started taking shots at Cardi after getting close to Nicki Minaj. The female rap scene is full of politics, and there’s this idea that if you support Cardi, you’re against Nicki, and vice versa. Over the years, some female rappers have sided with Cardi, while others have backed Nicki. It seems Ice Spice’s issues with Cardi began after she started hanging out with Nicki Minaj.

Ice Spice has navigated her relationships in the music industry with some strategic moves. She teamed up with Nicki Minaj because it was beneficial for her career, but she never really opposed Cardi B. In fact, Ice Spice always spoke positively about Cardi, and I never noticed any shady behavior from her side. The situation shifted when Cardi seemed to take a dig at Ice Spice during Summer Jam last year. While performing “Tomorrow 2,” Cardi displayed an image of Annie, who resembled Ice Spice, twerking. It was clear that Cardi was trolling Ice Spice. They eventually met and took pictures together, but we wouldn’t have known if Cardi hadn’t exposed Ice Spice for being a fan. Cardi referenced this in her “Wannabe” remix, saying, “I wake up to new O’s on my D, I be cute so I pose for a pic. Know they watching, I blow them a kiss.” Although it’s unclear if these lines were aimed at Ice Spice, it seems to fit the situation.

Ice Spice should be cautious with Cardi B, as Cardi appears to be keeping a close eye on her. Cardi was caught with a picture of Ice Spice on her phone when she posted a screenshot, and someone noticed Ice Spice’s image among her photos. We don’t know why Cardi had this picture—whether for inspiration or something else—but it’s evident that Cardi is watching her closely. Additionally, Cardi is keeping tabs on JT as well.

Speaking of JT, her “City Cinderella” album is worth discussing. JT took some shots at Cardi B in this album. I listened to it and enjoyed some tracks, particularly “Sang,” “JT C Star of the Show,” and her collaboration with DJ Khaled. Overall, the album was good, but I felt it could have been stronger. Despite liking the production and sample choices, I thought JT could have delivered more powerful verses. She has the talent to rap, and I want to see her refine her skills, expand her vocabulary, and come up with more creative lyrics. She has the potential but needs to put in more effort. Nevertheless, I’m happy for JT and glad she finally released her solo project.

JT Gets Her Lick Back at Cardi B
Let’s talk about the backstory of JT’s issues with Cardi B. It’s important to know that JT didn’t start this. Some might think, “JT is only coming at Cardi because she’s now cool with Nicki,” but that’s not true. Here’s what really went down.

When GloRilla released “Tomorrow 2” featuring Cardi B, some people thought Cardi took a shot at JT with the line, “Ah, that’s why my friend effed on your man.” Fans speculated she was talking about her friend Star Brim allegedly hooking up with JT’s boyfriend, Lil Uzi. JT didn’t react to this; instead, she congratulated GloRilla for “Tomorrow 2” making it to the top 10 and encouraged people to stream the “Queen Mix” of Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” and the remix she did for “FNF.”

Things heated up when a fan of Cardi’s commented, “Girl, this one tickled you, not congrats Glow. You know you can’t mention Cardi or your Massa will get the whip.” JT replied, “No, actually, the tweet was too long. Plus, Cardi has been having top 10s for years. I’ve been congratulating her for years. This is Glow’s first one. I’ve been ignoring y’all, but y’all are hella annoying. Move around and get off my D. Thank you.” Cardi then called JT a lap dog, tweeting, “Lap dog, go fetch.” This comment from Cardi, which seemed unprovoked, led to a Twitter exchange between the two, starting their ongoing tension.

JT later responded to Cardi’s insult in her song “Lemon Pepper,” addressing being called “prison pants” with the lines, “These Rick Owens, boo, these ain’t prison pants. If the bag big enough, he gets a second chance. Smoking on some ish, smell like a beef flopping down. Used to be the ish, look at that beef flopping now.”

In summary, the tension between JT and Cardi B has a history, and it’s clear that Cardi initiated the conflict, which JT eventually addressed in her music.
In her song “Serving,” she says, “I got that ison you can’t pronounce. Wait, let me spell it out. L-O-E-W-E. I don’t care about the amount. These Bs into fashion, mad, cause I’m into fashion. Mad I got that ish on and their ish was in the past tense. Woo. Talking about you had that ish on in 2017. B, it’s 2024, and you ain’t got that ish on no more. Oh, you ain’t got that ish on no more. I’m that B, I’m that B, and you can’t stand it.”

If you’re not aware, there’s been some drama between JT and Cardi B regarding fashion. People are debating who the top fashion icon in rap is. JT has been upping her fashion game, with some influence from her boyfriend, Lil Uzi. On the other hand, Cardi B has hinted that other girls are copying her style and trying to match her fashion sense. The whole situation is quite petty. It’ll be interesting to see how Cardi responds to JT and Ice Spice, who have basically called her a flop and claimed they’re taking her place. While I like JT and Ice Spice, I find their statements quite bold, so Cardi will likely have to respond to prove them wrong.
