Kirk Frost and Rashida have been in the spotlight since Love and Hip Hop Atlanta kicked off in 2012. Over the years, their relationship has often been described as a hot mess, and honestly, it’s hard to argue with that. There are so many rumors and theories about their marriage that it makes you wonder if Kirk and Rashida are the real deal or just putting on a show.

We’ve got everything from Western barbecue bacon jerky to freeze-dried goodies and the most addictive butter toffee peanuts. Now, back to Kirk and Rashida. To really understand their relationship, let’s rewind to the ’90s. That’s when Harlem native Kirk Lenel Frost started the DLo Record Label. Yep, you heard that right—DLo. And no, it’s not what you might think. Anyway, Kirk had four kids with different women and even had a run-in with Da Brat on an episode of Dish Nation. Da Brat revealed that Kirk wrote his number on the back of $2,100 bills and asked her to call him. So, Da Brat, how fast did you give him a ring?
So, I did end up calling the next day. I didn’t want to seem too eager, but I figured I’d follow up. She kept him entertained for a bit, and apparently, he was pretty generous with gifts. As for me, I ended up with a Lincoln Navigator, so I’d say I came out ahead. Not everything happened on the first date, though—things between them eventually fizzled out.

Let’s switch gears to Rashida Wadad Buckner. She was born in Decorah, Illinois, and spent a lot of her early years training as a gymnast. She even traveled to Texas to work with the legendary coach Bella Coroli. In 1990, her family moved to Atlanta, where she met two girls at her new school. They formed a rap group called The Capers and eventually signed with Kirk’s DLo Record Label. Since Rashida was underage, she needed her mom Shirlene’s permission to sign the deal.

There are rumors online that Kirk might have adopted Rashida when she was a teenager, but we can’t confirm that. The details about her first deal and her early interactions with Kirk are a bit unclear. However, we did come across a 2013 blog post from Hollywood Street King that adds some juicy details. The blog claims that Rashida was 15 and Kirk was 23 when they started dating. An insider allegedly said that Rashida’s mom, Shirlene, gave her blessing because she was dealing with her own substance issues. We’re pretty skeptical about this claim and haven’t been able to verify it.

I see you’re being cautious and covering your bases. The Capers put out their first album in 1998, but they broke up the following year as the members decided to go solo. Rashida continued to release solo albums under Kirk’s label, and he also managed her career. So, it’s no surprise her career isn’t really taking off now.
Kirk and Rashida have managed to keep their early relationship details pretty under wraps, especially before they joined Love & Hip Hop. Since neither of them was really on the celebrity radar back then, there’s not much info out there about their pre-show lives. They’ve been pretty tight-lipped about where they first met or when they started dating.

Kirk once said, “We were working together before we even got into a relationship. Over time, people started talking about us, and eventually, we ended up liking each other. And here we are now.”

Another thing they’re secretive about is their ages. Some think they’re keeping their ages a secret to hide their age difference. Online sources say Rashida was born on May 25, 1982, but she hasn’t confirmed this. When they announced their marriage in December 1999, fans did the math. If Rashida was really born in 1982, she would have been just 17 when they tied the knot. Blogs also claimed Kirk was 31 at the time, which led to some people calling him “Kirk K” instead of Kurt Kelly. Their attempts to cover up the truth only made things messier. It’s often said that it’s easier to just tell the truth and avoid all the extra drama.

In the end, Rashida and Kirk had to face all the rumors head-on.
Alright, for everyone who’s been snooping around in my business, let’s clear things up. First of all, I didn’t adopt Rashida, and I’m not interested in adopting her. And just to be clear, I wouldn’t marry anyone at 17 since I’m 31 now. I’m not going to get into anyone’s age, but I’ll be straightforward—I’m not looking to marry someone who’s underage.

You might’ve noticed that while the rumors have been denied, no one’s been keen on sharing exact ages. But guess what? We managed to get to the bottom of this. We know Rashida was born on May 25th, which is why her celebrity friends always give her a shout-out on her birthday. To figure out her birth year, we had to dig a little deeper.

Let’s start with Exhibit A: an August 1998 newspaper clipping about Rashida’s old rap group, The Capers. It says that Rashida and her bandmates were all 22 at that time, which puts her birth year in 1976, not 1982.

Now, Exhibit B: a March 2nd, 1988 newspaper article that talks about Rashida participating in a school spelling bee. It mentions that she was an 11-year-old sixth-grader, which lines up with her being born in 1976.

So, with these two pieces of evidence, it’s pretty clear that Rashida’s birthday is May 25, 1976, and she was 23 when she married Kirk in December 1999. Kirk was born on January 30th, and we found a January 9th, 2017 court filing on Bossip showing that he was 47 at that time. This means he was born in 1969 and was 30 when he and Rashida got married.

As for the rumors about Rashida being underage when they started dating: while Kirk and Rashida deny any claims of him adopting her or that she was 17 when they tied the knot, there’s a video floating around from a night out with friends, including media personality Ebony Electra. In the video, Ebony mentions she’s known Rashida since she was 17.

Here’s what Ebony had to say next: “Only [ _ ] back then that had the baddest cars, and that’s the only reason your ass went up to her high school and got her pretty ass. Okay, and now we’re here. How many years later? That [ _ ] with that. I got to get, how about that? How about that? Hold up, that’s the only reason your ass went up to her high school. That’s nasty as hell.”

So there it is—straight from Rashida’s friend. Rashida was in high school when Kirk came after her, and she admitted she was drawn to him partly because of his fancy car.

And if that’s not enough drama for you, during an episode of Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, K. Michelle had a showdown with Rashida after K. Michelle accused her ex, Mickey Memphis Wright, of abuse. Rashida didn’t buy the accusations since Memphis was married to her friend Toya Johnson at the time. K. Michelle’s friend then took to social media, calling Rashida a home wrecker and claiming Kirk was married when he and Rashida started their relationship.

In an October 2012 interview with Madame Noir, K. Michelle addressed Rashida’s claim that she was bitter and jealous because she couldn’t be married to a man like Kirk. K. Michelle had a pretty straightforward response:

“Oh, no, that’s not true at all. I actually thought Rashida was in the same boat as me, dealing with a guy. But she ended up with a good guy, and that’s me.”

So, there you have it! While the truth behind all the gossip about Kirk and Rashida’s relationship might stay a mystery, one thing is clear: they’re both experts at keeping their secrets under wraps.
