Greetings, everyone, and welcome to our esteemed channel. Recently, the renowned rapper Nas stirred up some attention with his latest track, “Ultra Black,” from his upcoming album, “King’s Disease,” where he made a pointed reference to Doja Cat. In his lyrics, Nas declared, “We going ultra black, unapologetically black, the opposite of Doja Cat, Michael Blaxton black.” While Nas’s intention might have been to provoke conversation with a dash of humor and shock value, I must admit, I found his dig at Doja Cat unnecessary. Given Nas’s status as a rap legend, it’s unlikely anyone would challenge him on his lyrics. However, it seemed a tad arbitrary to target Doja Cat in this manner.
Some context: Doja Cat has faced scrutiny following the resurfacing of peculiar videos showcasing her self-deprecating behavior and use of racial slurs in front of white individuals on TinyChat. These interactions led to Twitter speculation, painting the men involved as white supremacists, a rumor later debunked by Doja. Additionally, accusations surfaced regarding her song “Didn’t Do Nothing,” purportedly mocking Sandra Bland’s tragic death. Doja vehemently denied any connection between the song and police brutality, labeling such associations as deeply distressing.

Further allegations of self-hate were leveled at Doja, particularly regarding her comments on her natural hair, which some interpreted as disdain for her Black heritage. Doja Cat addressed these accusations and rumors during an Instagram Live session, offering apologies and clarifications. It’s essential to navigate such controversies with care, considering their implications on individuals and communities.
She issued a lengthy apology, yet struggled to recover from the backlash and lost significant support within the Black community. Even now, she continues to face criticism. Frankly, I find it unnecessary at this stage, especially when other colorist and anti-Black rappers go unchecked. Doja at least apologized, which is more than can be said for many others. Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, for instance, have never apologized for their colorist lyrics and statements. XXXTentacion wasn’t called out for his disturbing tweet either. Roddy Rich quoted Kodak Black’s derogatory remarks without facing similar scrutiny. Cardi B has made derogatory comments about dark-skinned Black women and Black people in general, yet faces little backlash. Tekashi 6ix9ine freely uses racial slurs without reproach. There’s a glaring double standard here.
Nas, instead of addressing these issues, chose to single out Doja, possibly because she’s an easy target. But if Nas truly stands unapologetically Black, why does he praise individuals like Iggy Azalea, who has a history of using racial slurs, or give a pass to white figures like Gwyneth Paltrow to say the n-word? It’s perplexing, especially considering Nas allegedly mistreated his Black ex-wife. If he genuinely cared about his people, he wouldn’t engage in such behavior. So, why the focus on Doja? I can’t help but wonder if it’s related to her dating preferences.

Doja, a biracial woman, has faced criticism from some black men for entertaining white men, though not all share this sentiment. This might explain why she receives more backlash than usual. However, Nas exacerbating the situation isn’t fair. While it’s important to hold Doja accountable for her words, she did apologize publicly, and since then, she’s kept to herself. It’s unjust for Nas to single her out when he doesn’t call out other rappers. Shifting gears, let’s discuss the City Girls. In a recent interview with The Shade Room, Young Miami and JT expressed their desire to collaborate with Nicki Minaj, citing her as the only female artist they haven’t worked with yet. However, some of Nicki’s fans were apprehensive due to past comments from Young Miami and JT. While Young Miami previously aligned herself with Cardi B, JT had made negative remarks about Nicki on Twitter and even recorded a fake diss track. Despite this, JT has since shown support for Nicki, wearing her Fendi collection and quoting her lyrics. Nicki acknowledged this support, liking a tweet about it.
When asked whether she purchased Nicki’s song “Move Ya Hips,” Young Miami confirmed that she had indeed bought it. This gesture suggests that JT and Young Miami are maintaining a positive attitude and showing support for Nicki. It seems they understand that throwing shade at Nicki doesn’t benefit them in any way. In fact, supporting Nicki could be advantageous, as Nicki’s fan base is known for being very supportive of those who support her. Given that the City Girls may be in need of such support at the moment due to recent setbacks, including the leak of their album “City on Lock” and personal tragedies, collaborating with Nicki could provide them with a significant boost. Some fans of Cardi B have raised concerns that the City Girls are shifting alliances by seeking to collaborate with Nicki. This perception may have stemmed from the City Girls’ lack of promotion for Cardi and Megan’s song “WAP.” JT’s response to queries about their silence on “WAP” could have been misconstrued as shade, but she clarified that her comments were not directed at Megan.

“I’m not about to rush and post things. You all didn’t even give me time to learn the song before expecting a video. Just jumping down people’s throats. Get out of my mentions,” Young Miami expressed in response to the criticism. She further added, “People always criticize City Girls for lacking support, but where was the support when we released our work? It’s easy to point fingers, but have you ever wondered why we aren’t receiving the support we deserve? Stop with the negativity. It’s tiresome.”
A Cardi B fan confronted Young Miami, stating, “Girl, stop complaining. Cardi even showed you support when JT was in jail.” In response, Young Miami retorted, “I’ve openly shown support for Cardi numerous times, but bullying someone isn’t acceptable. Move on.”
Young Miami and JT found themselves on the defensive as Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s fans criticized them for not promoting “WAP.” However, there’s no animosity between them. JT has always backed Megan, and Megan reciprocates the support. Recently, Young Miami and Megan exchanged friendly banter on Instagram, showcasing their solidarity. Additionally, City Girls receive support from Cardi B, who promotes their music. Nonetheless, industry politics and competition seem to be at play, with JT hinting at tensions with certain figures in the industry during an Instagram Live session.
While a collaboration with Nicki Minaj could significantly boost their standing, it’s uncertain if it will materialize. Nicki isn’t obligated to collaborate with them, but in the unpredictable world of music, anything could happen.
