So, as we mentioned, Kandi and Todd met in 2011 when Todd was working behind the scenes as a production manager on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and Kandi was a cast member. Her co-star Phaedra Parks met Todd first and thought he was very cute, articulate, nice, and down-to-earth. She thought he would be perfect for Kandi. During a reunion episode of the series, Phaedra said, “I want Kandi to have a great relationship, and I was pushing him, pushing him.”
The cast went on a trip to South Africa, and Todd, a father of one, was part of the crew that joined them. While there, he and Candy bonded. When they got back to Georgia, they spent even more time together. Todd was new to Atlanta and excited to explore the city and have some fun. But Candy made it clear that she wasn’t interested in casual flings.
During an appearance on OWN’s Black Love series, Todd recalled Candy asking him, “What are you going to do? Do you want to make this a real relationship? I don’t really need new friends.” He respected her honesty and, because she set that firm boundary from the start, Todd had no choice but to either commit or move on. He chose to go all in, hoping for a happily ever after.

Candy also shared on the show that, since the cast isn’t allowed to date anyone in the crew, they had to keep their relationship a secret at first. When they decided to take things to the next level, she didn’t want to hide anymore, so she encouraged him to quit his job. She said, “I’m a person who believes that if I love you and I’m all in, there’s nothing we can’t do together.” So, Todd resigned, and they started working together to build their empire.
When they went public with their relationship, all hell broke loose. A woman named Mila came forward, claiming she was in a relationship with Todd right up until he left her for Candy. “Girl, he was supposed to leave you for Candy,” Mila said. She recounted a conversation with Todd about his new relationship, where he allegedly called Candy “just a trick” and said she couldn’t sing, he didn’t care for her music, and while she had a nice body, her face was just alright. “Well, he’s no supermodel either,” Mila added, claiming Todd was using Candy to break into the Atlanta social scene while still messaging Mila, saying he missed her. It was all incredibly messy, allegedly.
Todd and Candy got engaged during a New Year’s Day celebration in January 2013. US Weekly reported that Todd gave Candy a two-carat diamond engagement ring, with her Real Housewives co-stars and her daughter, Riley, among the guests. The magazine mentioned Riley gave her blessing, but that wasn’t the whole story. According to Candy’s mom, Mama Joyce, Riley wasn’t thrilled about Todd. On an episode of Housewives, Mama Joyce said, “I don’t want to say anything to upset you, but she doesn’t really like Todd.” She didn’t stop there, though. Mama Joyce went on to say Candy deserved a better engagement ring. “Come again now? What was wrong with her ring?”
HuffPost dug deeper and found that while Candy’s ring looked like a big two-carat diamond, it was actually a cluster of smaller diamonds creating the illusion of a larger stone. The ring was priced at $111,000 according to the jewelry designer’s website. While $111,000 is a lot of money, Mama Joyce didn’t think it was enough for her daughter. Candy fired back, saying she chose the ring herself and it was exactly what she wanted. So, Mama Joyce, take a seat.
As they planned their big day, Candy started working on their prenup. That’s right! After seeing other female celebrities pay alimony to their ex-husbands, Candy was determined not to end up in a similar situation. While we don’t know all the details, we do know that if they divorce, Todd won’t get any alimony and has to leave her home within 30 days. Boom! With the prenup ready, all Todd had to do was sign it. But he thought it was unfair.
Mama Joyce wasn’t having any of it. She called Todd an opportunist, saying on an episode of Housewives that Candy “stepped herself down for him, and a man is supposed to be a provider.” Todd shot back, “I provide love, happiness, stability.” Sure, but love and happiness don’t pay the bills!
Then things got even more intense. During a visit to a bridal salon, Mama Joyce lost it and accused Candy’s assistant, Carmen, of sleeping with Todd. Say what now?

Mama Joyce took her grievances public in an exclusive interview with Radar Online. She said she believed Todd would take all of Candy’s money and wanted no part in the wedding planning. She even said she lost sleep after Candy got engaged and the whole situation made her physically ill. Somebody get her some Pepto Bismol! She added, “I just don’t feel like Todd is the right choice. I think he’s manipulative. I’ve tried to shield my child, but I’m tired. I’m over it. I pray to God I’m wrong about him.”
Mama Joyce continued to stir the pot by feuding with Todd’s mother, Miss Sharon, before she sadly passed away from a stroke in December 2014. Was Mama Joyce just being dramatic? Was she jealous that Todd was taking up all of Candy’s time and attention? Or was her motherly intuition spot on?
At the last minute, Todd finally signed the prenup, and they got married on April 4th, 2014. Despite her mixed feelings, Mama Joyce showed up to the ceremony, which aired in the 2014 spin-off series, Candy’s Wedding. But after the wedding, things got dramatic.
In one episode of the reality series, Candy shared that Todd was still upset about the prenup, which caused their intimate life to hit a standstill just six months after getting married. Candy, who was ready to have a baby, told her friend Phaedra that their lack of intimacy was making it hard to conceive. Eventually, they reconnected, and in January 2016, they welcomed their son Ace. They also had a baby girl via surrogate named Blaze in November 2019.
As they settled into parenthood, Todd admitted in a video on Candy’s YouTube channel that he felt disconnected from their new daughter. Candy was not happy when Todd wanted to go out to a club two nights in a row less than a week after Blaze was born. She said, “You don’t sit his ass down somewhere.” She also mentioned that Todd went out the night after Thanksgiving and stayed out until the morning. Todd defended himself, saying he liked going out because Candy wasn’t giving him enough attention. “Listen here, manchild,” Candy responded.
Candy has some serious concerns about a New Jersey condo that Todd owns and has been renovating. Todd bought the condo with an ex-girlfriend before he met Candy. Candy told her co-stars that whenever Todd visited New York, he stayed at the New Jersey condo and partied with his friends, which made her worry about him cheating on her. According to her co-star Porsha Williams, Todd was allegedly hooking up with other women and would tell them his name was Marvin to hide his identity. Marvin? Seriously, you couldn’t think of anything better than that?
As their business and real estate ventures grew, Candy started to feel like their relationship was more about business than pleasure. During a 2020 therapy session, she said their intimate life wasn’t what it used to be. Todd chimed in, “We get in bed, take care of that, and then it’s back to work.” That sounds pretty dull. He also felt that Candy wasn’t making time for their family, despite him quitting his job and making sacrifices for her. He felt she wasn’t doing the same. Now Candy’s money is longer. Todd mentioned he took on new businesses, like their trucking company, to please Candy, Mama Joyce, and Candy’s fans. He said, “I became a business entity that makes a lot of money. Everyone loves the money guy. He’s good. He’s the best. But I’m not happy. If you don’t want to work, just say you don’t want to work.”
Well, they’ve revealed that they’ve invited other women into their bedroom. Oh, no! If you’re a fan of our red flag videos, you know three-way activity is usually a recipe for disaster. One celebrity couple that tried and failed with this approach is Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert. Remember that video? We’ve linked it in our description box. Let’s do a quick recap.
According to Todd’s ex, he was never really attracted to Candy. He was drawn to her because she was a trick. They’re great business partners, but their intimate life shriveled up like a California Raisin soon after they got married. Her mom can’t stand him, and they occasionally bring other women into their relationship. They’ve broken the red flag detector.
Fast forward to May 2023. During an episode of Housewives, Candy mentioned that Todd’s new projects in the film industry were taking up a lot of his time. Todd wanted Candy to produce films, but she felt overwhelmed by her other commitments, like performing with Xscape and her acting career. She said, “I’m trying to do so much, and I know he wants his dreams to come true as well, but I don’t know how to make it all work.”
Many people think Candy and Todd’s marriage is heading for disaster because they prioritize their business ventures over their relationship. But according to Candy, they’re in it for the long haul. She better hope so, considering that prenup! At the Ebony Power 100 Gala, she told People magazine, “He pushes me in a way I’ve never experienced before being with him. I really feel like he’s my teammate in life.”
