Tiana Taylor and Iman Shumpert’s divorce has just been finalized, and it’s turned out to be one of the messiest celebrity splits in recent memory. Iman tried to claim a share of Tiana’s money, but the court ruled in her favor.
Iman didn’t take this well. He accused Tiana of using him for his money and manipulating the courts to make him look bad. It’s shocking how their once-perfect marriage fell apart so dramatically. Get ready because this is one wild story.
If someone had told us two years ago that Tiana and Iman would be getting divorced, we would have laughed. They seemed like the ideal celebrity couple. Now, not only are they divorcing, but it’s also been incredibly messy.
Tiana filed for divorce from Iman last September. Initially, she tried to maintain that everything was fine and that the separation was amicable. However, that facade fell apart once the divorce proceedings started. Everything that could go wrong did, and even more so, mainly due to Iman’s actions.
The first time they went to court, Iman reportedly told the judge he wanted every single gift he gave Tiana back. This included the condo he bought for her and the jewelry he gave her over their ten-year relationship. He even tried to claim a portion of the royalties from her music projects that she did before they even met. How does that make any sense?
In cases like these, assets are usually divided based on what was acquired during the marriage. So, Iman’s request for royalties from before they met was seen as a blatant money grab.
But if you thought that was strange, it got even crazier. Iman also tried to get the judge to lower his child support payments. He’s currently paying $8,000 per month for their daughters, Rue and Junie, which is about $4,000 per child. This amount is already considered low for someone of his celebrity status, yet he still tried to reduce it.
However, this likely won’t succeed because Tiana’s lawyers were prepared. They provided evidence showing that Iman was spending far more than the $8,000 he paid in child support. Iman claimed he earns significantly less than Tiana Taylor, stating her gross monthly income before taxes is $93,500, nearly double his $47,981. Due to this income disparity, he argued he shouldn’t have to pay as much.
But Tiana’s lawyers had receipts proving Iman was a big spender, dishing out over $100,000 monthly on his lifestyle. According to court documents, Iman spends $112,500 a month. This includes over $14,000 on dining out, another $14,000 on his podcast, and more than $6,000 on video music production.
Reports from Tiana’s CPA revealed Iman also spends $10,500 monthly on lunch and $19,000 on travel, commuting from South Atlanta to Alpharetta for work. This adds up to a lot, and the math doesn’t check out. If he’s only bringing in less than $48,000 a month, how can he afford to spend $112,000 monthly? He’s either living way above his means or lying to the courts about his income.
It’s astonishing that he spends $10,000 on lunch alone each month but complains about paying $8,000 for his kids. This sheds light on why Tiana said he’s not the best dad.
But that’s not all the drama. Tiana shared that she had been considering divorce long before last year, all because of Iman’s behavior. She claimed that he had been cheating on her even before they got married and that it continued throughout their marriage. According to her, he cheated on her during both of her pregnancies. To make things worse, he sent pictures of himself and their two-month-old child to women she believed he was seeing.
If this is true, it’s really awful. Iman tried to defend himself by claiming Tiana also cheated on him, but she responded that she only saw other people when they were on a break due to his cheating. A lawyer confirmed that Tiana Taylor was legally separated when she dated others, not while she was still with Iman. She never cheated while they were together.
Tiana didn’t even need to prove Iman’s infidelity because everyone already knew he had been cheating on her for years and had been caught multiple times. He should form a cheating club with Offset and Tristan Thompson because these three can’t seem to stay faithful.
Just a few months after Tiana and Iman got married, rumors started that he was hooking up with other women. Things got even more interesting when rumors suggested that Tiana and Iman were involved in a three-way relationship with another woman. This wasn’t too surprising since Tiana has always been open about their threesomes. So, this wasn’t all that shocking.
The rumors got even stronger when Tiana deleted her Instagram and Twitter accounts, making people speculate that the rumors about Iman having a baby with someone else were true. However, she denied these rumors and publicly addressed the situation, saying:
“I’ve never seen or touched that girl in my life. My page is gone because I’m upset at Def Jam for not releasing my WTP video on time, as usual. It’s really sad that lies are entertained more than the truth. Iman is not dumb; he knows the story.”
Remember when a TikToker shared a story based on a tip from one of Tiana’s assistants? The woman claimed it was about a singer whose husband used to be in the NBA. She said the husband cheated a lot, causing the wife to suffer a severe heartbreak that landed her in the hospital. She also claimed the real reason the woman was hospitalized was due to an overdose, leading to a canceled concert.
Although the TikToker didn’t name Tiana or Iman, everyone put the pieces together and realized she was talking about them. Tiana responded to these allegations on Instagram, saying:
“The person who sent in this cap TikTok story is a fool. The person who reenacted the cap story is a fool, and she better have her court coin ready. Most importantly, where’s the proof? Where are the receipts?”
Tiana added, “Nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody, can make Potunia over a damn thing. I’d put him in a nice suit and bury him myself before I ever let him or anybody push me to drugs or take myself out.” Despite the rumors, Tiana always tried to protect Iman and their marriage, defending him at every opportunity, even lying for him.
Last year, Iman was caught when his side piece posted a video where you could clearly hear his voice in the background. She also posted a picture, and even though Iman’s face wasn’t visible, it was obvious it was him. The biggest evidence was a picture of her wearing Iman’s chain, making it undeniable that they were involved.
Even then, Tiana defended him, saying:
“In all fairness, Iman and I separated and have been for a while. To be 100% clear, infidelity isn’t one of the reasons for our separation. We are still one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our two beautiful children. The only reason I’m sharing this is because the narratives are getting out of hand, and it’s unfair to all parties involved. I hope this provides some clarity.”
Despite Tiana’s defense, Iman couldn’t deny the cheating allegations in court, so he tried to claim that Tiana was violent and had put her hands on him. He spoke about an alleged incident, saying:
“I was downstairs, headphones on, playing on my PlayStation when she started hitting me. I used to work with special ed kids, so I tried to calm her down with a bear hug. I yelled for my siblings and went upstairs to where my mom was.”
Unfortunately for Iman, things didn’t go as planned. Instead of getting half of everything Tiana had, including her royalties from before they met, the judge’s ruling was surprisingly fair, if you ask me.
His request to reduce child support payments was denied, which isn’t surprising. I mean, if you can spend $10,000 on lunch, you can afford $8,000 for child support. According to reports, a Fulton County judge in Georgia ordered Iman to make a one-time payment in the seven-figure range. He also has to keep paying $8,000 a month in child support and cover 100% of the private school fees for his daughters, Junie and Rue.
Iman gets to keep his Shumpert Investments, his condo in Miami, and two homes in South Georgia and Decatur. Tiana, on the other hand, keeps full ownership of her companies, TaylorMade and Aunties, all her jewelry, and four of their marital properties, though the details weren’t disclosed.
Iman wasn’t happy with this outcome and accused Tiana of being a gold digger, claiming she used him for his money and made him broke. He argued that he deserved more from the divorce and accused Tiana of lying to the courts to get more money.
Fans have been buzzing about it, saying things like, “Iman has to pay Tiana a one-time seven-figure settlement, $8,000 a month in child support, and cover private school expenses. That’s what happens when you’re messy and sassy; it never works out in your favor.”
Tiana tried to keep the divorce peaceful, but Iman wanted everything she had built from the ground up. Now, he’s the one paying for it. She endured months of media scrutiny about his attempts to get her money, but in the end, he couldn’t touch it.
